The reason why they are expensive in NZ is because of the frontal impact standard laws that were introduced which stopped older cars being eligible for import over there. Apparently there's a loophole though. That, and the fact that 99% of all older EVO's in NZ have been thrashed and trashed to smithereens!
NZ was also the dumping ground for cars from Japan that were damaged and then repaired. Often poorly. Not to mention the odo' windbacks that still seem quite common.
The prime examples left in Japan are the ones I would be looking at. Sure, they may be expensive- but the best examples are mint and were obviously cared for by someone who gave a fuck. Personally, that's who I would want to buy a 20 year old+ car from!

Hey mate,
These cars are OBD1. I used to have a palm pilot with 'MMCD' on it but sold it a while ago. You can only log if you have a single board ECU too.
There's also this trick too if you want to try it

I would do a clutch drag test first:
Failing that, maybe consider looking into your Viscous Coupling as the culprit of the clutch slip symptoms? Also check to see if Steve Murch at MSE (Motorsport Engineering) in Auckland is still taking turbos from the public to rebuild. He's an honest bloke and can go pretty amazing things with MHI turbines!

How did you go on the lip SWTGSR? The evo 2 lsd diff arived to me and was a 3.5 open centre gsr diff full of metal flakes. And the good condition tein coilovers were bent really bad. So im guessing who ever brought the evo 2 gearbox got a 3.5 std gsr gearbox.
Im not going down that way for a couple of months but if anyone lives close by and wants to earn some coin flick me a message. It was picked up from here----
