A bit off topic (unless I get Techsport to do it) but I'm thinking of doing a full rebuild of my gearbox.
Has anyone done this and had experience of doing it without all the special tools required.

Yeh mate it's a fairly complicated excersize.

You will def need some special tools. Either buy or make up your own.
You will also need a hydraulic press, because without it you won't be able to do anything.

If you are going to get these clows to do anything for you make sure you have a written quote before proceeding, they love to invoice you 2-3 times more than they quoted without speaking to you first.

I will never deal with these guys again, and I will also recommend anyone I know to go elsewhere as result of the 11 months delay i've had by sending him a gearbox to replace bearings only...

I'm guessing it's in reference to this comment earlier in the thread and subsequent dealings which have been had with "said business" which have since made him think this comment is no longer representative of how he finds this business to deal with.

I just wanted to say

At the time I might have been guilty of dismissing shayne's post.

I now understand his frustration

These small disputes never amount to anything and their is no right or wrong answer.

not worth dragging names through the mud, each punishment should fit the crime

this has nothing to do with the quality of work and people have had good experiences and they do good work

just didn't work out between us, now I'm getting my gearboxes done elsewhere.

Defamation laws in Australia almost always work in favour of the business,

The guys that have posted in this thread with threats of directing customers and potential sales away from a business just so you know it is against the law, this comment could land you in hot water, you would be paying large amounts of money for lost earnings as the judge would have a guidelines or figures to calculate income from each industry and length of time the defamation publication was available online,  just recently businesses have been winning these cases.

I'm not saying your dealings with the "previously mentioned business " are false or exaggerated nor am I saying they are true,

when posting try to  keep it about your experience with the business , and make it read like it's just an opinion, don't state it as a fact unless you have hard evidence to prove your claims, remember, if you end up in court you must prove your statements are true and if you are unable to do so well your up shit creek without a paddle.

The lynch mob approach is not a good idea

Their would be so many false claims made against businesses and seeing as we are in the year 2013, lynch mobs are long gone being replaced by governing bodies that can help mediate these situations in a professional manner along with courts  and judges who have the tools and the correct training, experience and qualifications to make a fair decision.

I know  people work hard for their money and you spend it on the thing you love most,  your car (make sure mrs doesn't read this ) and it sucks balls , when you get ripped off or burnt, trust me it sucks balls just as much when people make false accusations or call you a liar because you have made a honest mistake or being labelled a dodgy lebo cut and shut rebirth specialist just because you are  a import wreckers, even worse the snot nosed kid at local aquarium ( who doesn't even know you ) tries to convince  your very loyal good customer not to take his car to your workshop because your a dodgy lebo ( and your not even lebo) and he should take his car to his snot nose friend who just opened a workshop :o ( example stories , they are in no way real or true , I promise I just made them up , no really I did)

a disgruntled vindictive customer can be just as bad as a dodgy business owner.

most business don't do it intentionally , why would they if they have a long term goal, we all make mistakes,  as humans do, the businesses that rip people off intentionally don't last long as we know they fizzle away within a few years as have seen recently

the members that posted with intent to drive potential sales away from a business might want to edit their posts, just a word of advice but  it's entirely up to you

I got my gearbox reconditioned by Meek. Very happy with the result - on budget and on time. Rare for mechanics these days!

If you're not in Sydney, there is nothing stopping you from getting your regular mechanic to put the box on a pallet and getting it couriered to Meek. When you're spending a decent amount of money, whats a bit extra for the courier?
