RALLY car driver Paul Flintoff is dead and another driver is fighting for his life after an accident during a race yesterday.

Mr Flintoff died when the Elfin MS8 clubman sports car he was travelling in tumbled 100m down an embankment during the Mt Buller Sprint.

Driver David Reynolds, 22, was taken by plane to The Alfred hospital where he was in a serious condition last night.

Mr Reynolds is a former Carrera Cup winner.

Race officials are investigating how the accident happened during the 16.1km race on the High Country mountain.

The car flipped several times before landing among trees about 3.45pm.

R.I.P Paul Flintoff

Pretty sad. But died doing what he lived for. Paul was a very professional. experienced co-driver. The driver although 22yo is experienced, a carrera cup winner. The car however is not something i'd get in for a competitive rally. No protection in a car like that. Ok for some swift laps at the track or a sunday drive through the hills with the wind in your hair. IMO they are not suitable for serious competition in rallies with trees and drop offs.

Be interesting to know what happened. Paul always had incar video.
