Are you going to have the shell seam welded at all?

This is what I had done on my rally car, not perfect, but almost. Stut towers are cross braced also.

Still got to add some more bars in yet though (shown in green).

Its not perfect, the guy that did the cage didn't do alot of things the way we asked (foot plates etc). The main one was the bar going from the front legs to the strut tower was supposed to go down on an angle from the bend in the front leg, not horizontally as it was done. And he didn't do the bars that I drew in in green (dunno why, but after 3 months of him stuffing us around, I didn't care, I just wanted the car back).

If only it was an evo though :(

sounds like its comimg along...

id be keen to see what you do with the cage too.. :)

i really like this idea.. the inverted V between the rear legs...
http://www.bmsc.com....pg?d=1184493409
Neal Bates has been using it in the new S2000 corolla.. Its good because its really strong, and less material than the ususal X.

seat is in and mounted super low,

cage design is final and is under way.

lewis, i had a look into that hoop design you suggested but i would have to change the roof section to suit.so im just running a normal x in the hoop.

Who are you getting your rollcage done by? And roughly how much is it costing you? If you dont want to disclose it out in the open, feel free to PM me :)

Once the cage is finished, I would be curious to know if the foot plates are fully welded around the perimeter or just stitched.

imo..it will make a diffrence in terms of chassis strength etc.. ive seen the result of a big head on impact with the cage to the towers, and it made a big diffrence.

i just think if you are spending all that $$ on a full build it would be worth spending a little more and doing it all the way.

how are they doing the welds for the roof? is the roof off? or just droping the hoop through the floor to weld the top?

Yes, and the foot plates to the front laterals. Most cage builders up here seem to fully weld them (not for any particular reason though). One guy I spoke said that he only stitch welds them as he saw a car which had a big roll over, and when the foot plates are fully welded, the metal around the welds goes brittle due to the tempering and the accident just punched the entire cage through the floor, foot plates and all. There was probably more to it (eg, foot plates mounted to the floor pan instead of the sills etc) than that but it does seem to make a bit of sense.
