Hi guys, I'm asking a favour to see if anyone knows how to tell if my 1994 Mitsubishi Rvr super sports gear has a 6 or 7 bolt flywheel in it. I know if I pull the car apart and look at it I can tell but I'd like to know prior to that point as I'd like to have the new flywheel ready to go when I put my new clutch in as I only have a small window to do it and I don't want to be waiting around for parts to come. Any assistance would be much to appreciated in the matter. And thanks in advance!!

Check the front of the sump man, flat = 6 bolt, 7 = bulge.

By front, he means the front of the engine, not the car. The section just behind the harmonic balancer.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The 7 bolt engines have a different oil pump/front housing that has a curve in it, the front of the sump pan follows this curve. Like Mo said, just behind the crank pulley (harmonic balancer)

you'll see the pan curve/bulge.

But like others have mentioned, 7 bolt, unless the engine has been swapped for a 6 bolt (which I have seen in 2 RVRs, buggers me why)

No point even looking at a six bolt for anything other than a boat anchor

Finished that sentence for you Jack...

An ex anchor 6bolt is still better than a 7bolt.
Name 1 difference that was a upgrade.
Better make it 2 because you do get bigger wrist pins. Thats it. Every other change was a downgrade.

1. smaller ports= higher gas speed which negates the need for the stupid butterfly in the manifold.AND giver better off boost throttle response.

2. full girdle which means no requirement of after market parts to stop the block from twisting.

that was easy....van you make it harder next time?

Pop quiz.....? can you legally register a SIX bolt without engineering in a gsr in WA.

answer...NO you fucking cant!!

why....requires custom made engine mounts

and SO...six bolts a boat anchors.
