http://www.gumtree.c...789828?mpch=ads

I know there always issues about early evos and vin numbers and all that

Just wondering if someone could explain what is needed to re register something like this

Im sure it depends on certain things im from QLD so not too familiar with how things work there

Could it be registered in QLD or does that all depend on vin numbers n stuff too

Any info would be a great help

Because its ran out of rego a while back it will need to undergo a full blue slip inspection.

Also the modified intercooler, intake manifold and exhaust system may not pass inspection, nor will rust holes in the roof, possibly aftermarket suspension and anything else that's not ADR approved.

Also EVO 1,2,3 are not able to be legitly registered (if that's a word) in NSW unless they were yellow plate personal imports - which this car is not. So somehow this car has been rego'd in NSW and it raises questions as to how?

Best thing to do is to get the chassis number and double check it against a scan of the current registration papers to make sure the numbers match up on the car to the papers.

Its not the first time somebody in Sydney has bought a real EVO from interstate, but welded in the strut tower panels from an Australian CC GLXi Lancer sedan or GSR AWD Lancer.

Once its been registered in NSW its pretty much OK, provided all the numbers check out and there are no visible signs of tampering with the chassis.

The last digits on the chassis number from the rego check shows V001. The 001 looks pretty suss to me.

The TARE weight is also showing up lighter than an EVO GSR weight so it will need to be investigated.

But again, you have to be prepared to gamble the odds that its 90+% illegal and a small % legit.

Often when things appear to be too good to be true, you have to do some extra homework to find out why.

Worst case scenario is that when you take it to QLD and it undergoes inspection that you find out its got roll cage bolt holes in it and that it was brought in under a CAMS license for competition use only; or if it has been rebirthed/ rebadged it will become a Police investigation. Either way you will never be able to register the car anywhere again.

I know I probably sound cynical, but I hope it is legitimate for a buyer's sake.

Cost example:

Purchase price $5000

Transport $1000

New roof skin $600

Labour to fit, install and paint roof skin $1500

UNKNOWNS allowance for parts to swap over and shit you don't know about that may need replacing for rego $2000 (are you sure the car runs? In one of the pics there is a silver mechanics car parked next to it in the driveway with doors open lol. Are the engine and gearbox in good working condition or need a rebuild? costs can shoot up big time)

Rego, insurance etc: $800

You could get away with getting it back on the road and rego'd for between $9,000-$11,000 IMO, depending on the UNKNOWNS.

I personally think its always good insurance to buy a car that's already road registered and one that you can take out on he road for a test drive.

Cheers
