Garage has been updated :D

Now to get some driveshafts made up, finish the back section of exhaust as well as a good clean both inside and out.

Get some build up pics in this thread too. So we can all have a look and comment.
My mrs had the x3 and I was keen to go for na 4g63 conversion, but we ended up with the 1999 twin cam. It was good, but a 2l would have been better.

Yeah i'll get right on that....

The X3 can be done, but it would be a head fuck due to engine and box configuration are arse about face, which is why a X2 is alot better option, remove old 4G15, insert 4G63t, cut passenger side engine mount, make it abit longer, make new mount for front roll stopper on crossmember and away you go. Shit, you can even use the standard 1.5l rear roll stopper and the gearbox mount, done.

Here is some more pics of along the way....

Maybe the x3 will take the evo 4-6 engine?

Yeah would be the better option, but to be brutally honest, it's not worth it, i got lucky, i had a engine collecting dust here, and i got the car for free if i had to pay for one of these things, i would'nt have done it. ATM im only out pocket in the sub $5000 range, including getting the engine getting a freshen up etc etc, so i've done alright and at the end of the day it's a excel, nothing you do will change what people think of them.

Well i can try to keep the rear muffler tucked away as best possible, should be right, and yeah that's the plan.

Had a crack at the exhaust last night, got the kink on the J pipe all finished up so now it comes out in the middle of the tunnel, added my "high flow cat" and 40 inch resonator, still have to do the last section to add the rear muffler :)

Yeah after last nights efforts, i vowed to never do another exhaust from the ground it sucks massive wang, tho it is easier now i can tack it up with the MIG then remove from car and then finish it with TIG on the bench where it's easier to work with.

So i cannot get the factory dash to work with this, bit of a bummer, as the old motor was a distributor and now the vr4 runs a wasted spark dual coil pack setup, i'm no electronics wizz so i just left it alone. I do have a Apexi SAFC-II sitting around from my old coupe, and thought id use that for a display for revs, voltage, throttle position and knock counts.

As i've mentioned i'm trying to keep this car appearing as stock as possible, the apexi stands out like dogs balls, after sitting in the car moving it around, the only place that made sense was in the cluster, but then i'd have to drill a couple holes and put some bolts/screws to hold the thin metal base in place, which is a shitty idea.

I came up with the idea of using magnets, got myself a decent sized rectangular piece of rare earth magnet, araldite it to the under side of the cluster facia panel in the area i want the apexi mounted.

Posted Image

Had to trim some plastic so that it fits in as best possible for best surface contact

Add aaldite and magnet

Works alright :)

So there ya go, nice and simple to install and best of all, if i get pulled over, or i park it in a shopping centre i can easily remove it and tuck it away in the centre console out of sight out of mind, with no bodgey looking holes left behind. :)
