Improvements made on the VR4.

Timing belt adjustment and idler pulley replaced (NSK one went bad after 5000km's????)
Kiggly racing crank timing sensor fitted - no more fluctuating timing from belt stretch.
Exhaust housing upgraded (thanks Cheeks)
Turbo oil feed restrictor installed.
Turbo oil line feed filter installed.
Sump / timing cover thread fixed (short one which is under the tbelt - thread stripped in timing cover.... helicoiled the thing!)

Will get it back in for a tune and see how she pulls with the new crank trigger.
Thinking of getting the Autronic Knock board just to see how much I can make on pump 98.

A good note:
For those guys who have balance shafts removed, use part number MD128107 to replace the actual balance shaft gear that sits behind the harmonic balancer / timing plate.
See last attachment for more details.

Turbo swap pics:

Found: leaky turbo gasket. This time I torqued the MFer up real good! With some copper exhaust gasket also.

.82 and 1.06 is very very very different!
Hopefully this will give me more power up top and less down low. I'm over breaking drivetrain parts so the less power down low the better at the moment.

I managed to swap the exhaust housing with the turbo / exhaust manifold still in the car!
It was alot more fiddly but I wasn't in the mood to pull everything apart and break all the seals etc.

(OT but) Thats funny... my KOYO idler did the same thing. I wasnt looking out for it but just happened to clean it up and spin it and yeah, the bearing feels rough as guts with fuck all K's on it

Great progress anyway B)

Hopefully I get some time over the weekend to put everything back together and give it a spin.
Just purchased an OEM mitsu uni joint and it is much bigger / better than the repco stuff. No wonder I snapped mine...

I'm considering putting on a stock xfer case and stock tailshaft with oem mitsu uni''s and giving the car another crack with a big launch.
The goal is to get off the line at 6000rpm with 30psi of boost! lol

Car back together and on the ground.

The obvious changes with the new setup are:

1. Turbo spool less evident at idle -> quick rev
2. Less flutter
3. Oil pressure higher with new thicker oil

Gonna get it tuned in fwd and take it down the track in FWD mode. I wonder what 136mph in AWD does in FWD? lol..
Gonna be fun!

Also see pics of broken uni (REPCO BRAND) vs OEM MITSU uni joint. It is obvious that the MITSU stuff is much more superior.
