From personal experience though - my mate has a 14B with a 16g turbine housing on his stock 4G93T and he loves it.

Exactly what i was about to say..i didnt think the Volumetric Efficiency of the 1.8L and head made enough puff to get even a big 16G spinning early enough..
A 20G..jeez!!, let me know how it goes..id be getting adjustable cam gears and pulling igniton in really early to try and get it on boost.
I remember a forum member on here a while ago complaining about the lag of the Big 16G on his 1.8L. Another point, a 20G loves around 15-20 psi..that turbo breathing that much air into a 1.8L is reported to be enough to make the bottom end and rods want to give up..so its all a bit of a trade off i guess..but unfortunately..theyre just not as strong...doesnt mean it will fall apart on you..btu if it does pop, youll know why at least.

I had 17.5psi by 3800 in my old GSR with a 16G. Not too bad I thought.
My current build has had a mild port job, Forged pistons, Mazda B6T rods, ACL race bearings and will be tuned to a max boost of 20psi using a reflashed Evo VII ECU. Along with a whole host of shit I can't be arsed mentioning... I expect response to be even better than my old GSR... but hey, i'm just some numpty bolting a 20G onto a stock motor as far as you're concerned.
Assumption is the mother of all fuckups someone once said.

Mate , put your ego to the side for just a moment and read my post...properly..
It says things like I didnt think.........Then you decide to come out with a passive agreesive statement pertaining to me calling you a fool..
C'mon, pull your head in 4 a sec...Congrats on getting your setup working, thats awesome..Your feedback is great and I guess now we all now it can work with a 20G if certain elements are included and setup correctly. However, that still doesnt mean that i havent heard humpteen ppl whinge about an E3 16G being laggy on a 1.8L.

Settle down Jarred!
He was commenting on old mates STOCK gsr with a 20G, not anything you have.
Obviously a worked/forged 93t engine with head work will spool a 20G nicely with 20psi.
As to the big 16g lag comment by Jap63, its a personal perception and heresay from other peoples experiences....I didnt think it was TOO bad on my car. The 16g spooled up about 3800 as well and had MASSIVE top speed. But at the time with the sprints it wasnt fast enough over the small 16g....

Yeah agreed, my mate had a big 16g on his 1.8L and the topend was unreal...you only lag once, so to speak, it wasnt laggy beyond being worth it, but next to say an E2 or E3, it was no compare (i know its a 2L, just comparing)..the engine just couldnt quite make enough early torque...having said that, the engine was stock...

I had a BIG16G on mine, but with the 14B rear housing and that worked well.
Sounds liek a good idea, make much difference, the housing alone?
What is it , a 7cm back to a 6cm?

Nothing to do with Ego? Just drives me nuts when people scream "Lag" or "Your engine will blow up" without enquiring as to their setup, assuming the owner hasn't considered it. Its almost funny when you consider a lot of 4G63 owners can't clamber over themselves fast enough to fit GT35Rs.
The only reason why some GSR owners complain about lag is becuase they're use to the response of the TD04. The 7cm 16G gave me a more civilised boost delivery and more power over more revs.

Fair enough..if that suits you style of driving then go 4 it, like my mate with the 16G on the 1.8L used to say..."you only lag once"
Id imagine the TD04 would feel like shit past 5500 rpm...whats the 16g feel like? Id imagine it would feel like it wants to pull past the redline?

I'm with Dan.
Big 16g with the 14b rear housing sounds like the way to go. What was the response like?

Nope, Pulled hard to about 7krpm. Never bothered to rev past there anyway. In fact one of the first things I do is reflash the ECU to set a revlimit at about 7.2-7.5krpm
