But the exhaust gas comes down one end and the air intake comes through another end and if the blades are spinning one way because of intake air, surely it's not because the engine is turned in a different direction?

Ok mate....no worries.....

Most of the advice you'll get on here is from people with experience that have either done it before, or tried and failed.

Its a lot less painful and expensive to take that kind of stuff on board.

But I do feel pretty stupid 😳
When I first bought my RVR I played with the turbo and broke the original turbine, so I put the blades from a turbo I had from an Evo 6 and after I rebuilt the engine I went for a spin and got no boost, so I was thinking boost leaks but now I know it was the stupid stupid stupid stupid!!!!!

Wrong exhaust snail will make gasses spin the turbo wrong way so that turbo will blow the air out on inlet side instead of suck it in. Early evos have exhaust snail spining clockwise and late evos anticlockwise or the other way around but point is you can't mix them.

Surely if he mounts the turbo hotside to the exhaust manifold and the air intake to the other side the turbo will spin in relation to the exhaust pressure pushing on the impeller. If he changes impeller to an Evo 4-9 in an evo 1-3 16g impeller he would have trouble. If you blow hot air into the correct side the other side will compress cold air into the engine..

I've seen someone put a 4-9 compressor cover on a 1-3 turbo. It didn't build boost very well, but truth be told, it still made power somehow. 100% not recommended, though. You'll only run into this if you start swapping out compressor or turbine wheels & covers and mismatching.

Not if you use evo 4-9 turbo compresor+cartridge and evo 1-3 exhaust housing together even if you do blow hot air through exhust housing the way it should be.
It will make inducer wheel spin wrong way hence no boost made.

Cheers

Search for picture of evo 4-9 exhaust wheel and evo 1-3 exhaust wheel.
You'll see how blades are oposite setup.

You are right, I didn't pick CAM280 was going to fit an EVO 1-3 exhaust housing. I was just thinking of an adapter from EVO/RVR manifold to an EVO 4-9 housing.

Cheers
