Hi guys, just seeing if anyone would know where or how I could go about get the final gear extended? On the motorway at 110km/h im sitting at like 3500-3800rpm. I'd rather it be down around 2500-2800rpm. That will be enough torque to coast along and if I need to overtake I can drop it down. I always do anyway so that won't phase me. And that should gain alot more fuel economy for my commute. I work 20mins away from home and 15mins of that is on the motorway cruising. So it makes sense to look into this.

Cheers guys

some evo 3s run a 3.5 ratio instead of 3.9 thatd probably be the easiest way, evo 3 box and crown and pinion from a rear diff but that alone will be 1k + to buy assuming its a self install etc.

Convert the rvr 3.9 to a VR4 or langsr 3.5 ratio.

Want more. Maybe you can do a cyborg 2.8

Is that the diff ratio or the gearset? I'm happy with the other gears just 5th that's too short. If I change out the diff I'll screw with the other gears. I don't want to be changing into 2nd at 70 and then 3rd at 125km. Lol

I explore this avenue myself a few years ago for the same reason. I didnt get far as circumstances changed.
I imagine that there really isnt much in the option of changing just the 5th gearset to drop freeway revs. Looking at most w5m gearboxes, the 5th gear is pretty similar across the board.....

Evo 3 5th gear has the longest legs of any 5th gear out there.

Unfortunately they aren't made any longer and existing stocks out there are pretty much dried up.

TMZ performance had some but I think he sold out.

I've also never seen an Evo3 with a 3.5 final ratio, Taz, could you point out where you saw it?

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

Looks like only the GSR's not the actual evo's got 3.545's.

We used the final drive from a GSR box to convert a mates Evo3 box to 3.5

And affects all other gears.

Are both 5th gears removable? I remember the input shaft gear is.

Maybe can custom make the 2 gears. Aldo will know more about getting gears made.
Or mathias....

To go from 3500rpm to 2800 is around 30%. That is a huge amount of difference in gearing.

Operational egr can give you 10% better economy at coasting. Maybe check yours is working and not clogged up

Is it possible to get an adaptor plate or stronger gearbox? These seem pretty unreliable from what I've read? Or is it just mine?
