Okay I'm the first to admit I know none of the wizardry inside an auto.

Any ideas what this garbage I found in the pan is?

Who is the best person in Brisbane to see for a rebuilt and a few mods on these boxes?

Thanks in advance for any guidance

Cheers.

So it seems from looking around, however I am after a box for daily duties with a few mods to give it firmer shifts. Unfortunately I don't have 8g to drop on a box otherwise I would def give Aldo a look in, personally I'm looking for someone in the Brisbane area who may know these boxes and any potential weak points! Thanks for you input sorry I was not clearer in my post.

Pretty easy to do the basics on your own Ben.
Buy a 5 disc clutch pack from Kiggly and a translab shift kit will have the box capable of living easily into sub 10 second 1/4’s.
I did mine and it’s not difficult, just time consuming. I’d also buy a new set of end clutches and bump the line pressure up a bit for more positive shifts.
Have a good read on kiggly racing.com. Lots of good info there!

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

Pic shows centre diff thrust washers have split & made it into the sump

That centre diff would be very worn & the cross was lashing bad

Tim in Bris above would be running a welded centre diff

I just wanted to thank you guys for your replies. Some helpful info.. to be honest I'm kind of over working on the car for the minute with rebuilding most things suspension and steering related.

Now just to do a bit of research and see if it is a job I'm comfortable with as this is my first AWD vehicle I have always had RWD which is a piece of cake.

Thanks again all for your replies.

Correct Aldo. But he may not want to go welded but on the other hand the std centre diff isn’t the strongest thing on the planet!

Hi Bris vr4, I currently also own a z12 soarer with a 2 way kaaz that is pretty much a locker and it has not bothered me however I have never owned anything except RWD cars so I have no idea the impact on mainly front wheel drive!

I'm guessing a bit heavier steering and maybe some understeer?

I started building boxes for $1,800 if the owner suplied the box & dells
Depending on the build, lsd etc, the price changes
Next year when I can walk again, I will build boxes again
Where did you hear 8g ?

Bit of understeer and u turns aren’t as easy but not bad all in all in an auto. Manual with a welded centre diff was totally different in mine though!

No disrespect on you Aldo, if I had money to spend I would def get the guru to build a box. just seemed like your work was mainly in the competition drag racing end of the market (did have a bit of a look around the forums before posting), so I guess my point was is that I'm not after a box with all the goodies then plus shipping to Sydney and back, ontop of all that I am hoping to have a quick turn around on a box. If that can't happen for me I'm just going to run this one as is and buy another box to build on the side.

Let me know if you need a box. I've got a few that I'd sell. RVR autos.
