Hi All,

I purchased a 1st Gen GTO for parts. The body is too good to scrap. I'm really considering a 4g conversion here with a manual 5 possibly 6 speed.

Light weight, high revving circuit car. To get it light, I might have to look into CF body parts.

The one benefit this car has is the Aero compared to the Galant.

I'll update as things progress. This should be fun. 090f555e27dd30864a5f6ecb6f1a083e.jpgdd30458ff559fb612224757e1229d00b.jpg

Drivetrain issues ruined sales for these things...such a good looking car too.

Block has been delivered!

Bought a whole car and had Mike Dale do me the honours of picking up the car and pulling the engine out for me. Then shipping it to myself for this epic build.

Thanks again Mike if you are reading.

I've got the pistons (SPS) and crank. Just need to order rods. I'll be using a standard 5 speed manual in the meantime so rpm limited.

Turbo to be decided. Twin Tdo5 turbos would be interesting. c4555f733243609813ead06cf09be8e4.jpg89f1b1a49cd3e39d0f83053fb190105d.jpg3663cc58e1403c709d454eea7db85706.jpg

So because it will be track orientated.. I will need to keep the torque down low.

So the 2.4l block will be used with the big bore SPS pistons.

As for the crank and rod combo. I'm thinking I might do a long rod setup or a super long rod setup. This means, 2.4l long rod with a 100mm crank (like the other 2.4l I'm building) or do something different and go 2.0l crank (88mm) with 162mm rods with the SPS pistons.

Alternatively, spend a bit more cash and get crank and rods to make it 2.2l.

If I were to go 2.4 or 2.0, I'd just use the oem cranks for this build. I'm looking at a medium from turbo and a 5 speed manual box.

I think the limit of the car will be the transmission. Id honestly want to make a humble 250kw of reliable power. Big brakes, great suspension, moderate power, good aero and light weight (1000kg).

Have they gotten these things down to 1000kg?

I'll be using the VR4 box 5 speed. So I'd say 250kw is the safe zone...

As for weight, JFK a guy who races them these days has his 6g72 track spec GTO at 1200kg. That's with a heavy 6 speed and 6 cylinder. I'll be running the 4G and lighter 5 speed. Hopefully shave a good 200kg from that plus cf doors.

So wide wheelbase, light frame, good aero and big wheels (9 inch minimum) should make a good track car.

The G4CS block getting some oil squirter threads drilled and tapped.

Piston to bore clearance is going to be looser than spec. To allow for the abuse we plan on giving them...

This is basically going to be my old VR4 head with the old pistons, new rods and oem crank.

Question is should I go 2.0L super long rod or 2.4L Long rod?

I've decided to use the PAR dog box here when I'm done with manual in my Galant Street car. Circuit = manual.
Street can live with auto.... 3cc04d4905ded7295ec4f4c261e885ca.jpg9e30b7213c18d1193d0f15a6e0524f7f.jpg548f5c5a00fbbb2ea3a3ced463236e06.jpg3bcd05bd58bf16a6957d7b338fd21488.jpg
