1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 Evolution

Heres a bit of a rundown on my Galant VR4 Evolution. Its a weekend toy and has less than 140,000km on it. Ive recently upgraded the throttle body and intercooler so need to have the car retuned. Power listed below is before the throttle body and intercooler upgrade. I have also recently ordered an Aquamist water methanol system for when the car is retuned.

 

 

Engine:

Mahle Pistons - 8.5:1 compression

Aftermarket rods - unknown brand

ARP head studs 
Cometic head gasket 
Kelford TX272 camshafts
Tomei adjustable cam gears
Supertech dual valve springs with titanium retainers 

Induction / Exhaust system: 
Forced Performance FP3582R ball bearing Mitsubishi boltup turbo

Good power!!! Surprised that the heavy duty clutch holds up! Mine died at about 160 kW at the wheels.

How did you get the 2x internal fuel pumps with different flow rates to work?

Yeah Ill get some engine bay shots and put them up.

 

I've had one go at the drags, but I didn't go too well. Firstly the throttle body seals had blown causing a massive boost leak (and dyno showed a loss of around 50kw atw), and secondly my driving is shit.

Thanks Baz. Yeah clutch seems to hold up fine. Will see how she goes after next dyno tune!

 

The two fuel pumps was a stuff-up sorry. Have amended the list

No I had the S90 sitting around at home, so put it on instead of replacing the seals in the factory throttle body. Had to machine out the flange on the intake manifold to suit the bigger throttle body too.

 

One thing is that the car doesn't idle as nicely as it used to. Although it is likely because it needs the tune updated do you have an idle issues with the S90? Do you have the FIAV blocked off?

It all bolts up as per stock...
Mind you I have a fiav block off plate but still utilising the stepper motor.

If your asking because you are thinking of fitting one on your evo, they are also a direct bolt on for them, stock tps and faiv bolt on and work like normal, I went to one because the big universal one which came with my manifold was cheap and shit, had leaking seals and no faiv so car wouldn't idle, swapped back to the s90 and car runs like stock again:)

I had issues with a leaky S90 too Baz. Idk if mine is a real S90 or a copy but it relies on the grease retaining seals of the ball bearings to seal boost from atmo which isn't a great idea. I installed some thin greased up o-rings to seal against the housing and the inner bearing race and it held up great on a boost leak test. Idk about the longevity of the fix though, its a pretty harsh environment for the o-ring on the throttle shaft, thats why I greased them heavily.

This tb has a brass throttle valve and another S90 I have has an aluminium one. I'm sure one of them must be a replica but idk which one.

 

Keep up the good work mate. Nothing hits like a black VR4. Has yours been resprayed?

Leak is not good!

I'll monitor the AMG.

 

Mine was not an S90.  It was a copy.  But it idled perfectly and fit well....

Same here, that's the thing with SD. I didn't realise it until I did a boost leak test.

Ryan you did a good job of fitting a decent sized intercooler in there whilst keeping your foglights. Was the intercooler custom made?
