Sorry, I know there has been a lot of posts on this, and I've gone through a fair few of them, and the theme that seems to emerge is that, depending on your rims, 215 tyres can be a problem to fit under a stock CC GSR, but 205's are OK.

 

Is this peoples general experience (ie no issues with fitting 205's but potential complications if one goes 215's) ?

 

I ask because I've just fitted up my 15x6 +46 EVO1 rims and am looking at what size tyre to replace the existing ones that came with the rims. I was thinking either;

 

- 205/50 x 15 (speedo will read 0.5% faster than with stock wheels and tyres);

 

or;

 

- 215/50 x 15 (speedo will read 1.2% slower than with stock wheels and tyres).

 

Also, is fitting a 215 on a 6 inch rim a bad idea and is it worth going 215's?

 

I'm always tempted by having more (of anything), so just wondering what others have found and hence the queries..

 

Finally, what do people do for spare wheels ?

 

I've only got 4 such rims, so 1^st thought is just use the stock wheel as the spare, but would the different rolling diameter of the stock wheel (0.5% if we consider the 205 x 15's) cause problems with the transmission? From what I can figure it would be OK on the same axle, because of the open diff, but would the different rolling diameter be too much for the viscous coupling (as there would have to be some slip with the axle at the other end)? It does my head in but I think it is the diagonally opposite wheels that are the most closely coupled, as the same side wheel on the opposite axle can spin at a different speed by virtue of the open diff on that axle, so the VC will be absorbing the mismatch between those diagonally opposite wheels. It does not seem to be very much of a difference to absorb, but is this a very bad idea regardless?

 

The other option is to find any old rim (of the same specs) and put the same new tyre on it for the spare. Is there any issue, from a legal perspective, of having different rims, as long as the specs are the same and the same tyre is on it ?
