Hey guys, I need to relocate my oil filter so have been looking at the options available. Would you happily use something like this

http://www.ebay.com....=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

or get something like Aeroflow?

Obviously price is an issue. It basically boils down to not spending more than I have to, but not going cheap so as to potentially compromise the engines oil feed.

Try permacool, good quality brand from the states. I got mine as part of an oil cooler/filter re-locator kit as below...

http://www.shop.perm...00-HP-69195.htm

They do re locator kits on their own also...

I had one like that, it was ok, but the pressed on fittings leaked slightly, there was a small amount of oil seaping out with dirt stuck to it. Not enough to drip but enough to see.

I see some kits have AN fittings and others have barbed ends and clamps. Any pros or cons for these? I'm leaning towards AN simply because they look like they are less likely to leak or fail, but I have no empirical evidence to back this up.

AN fittings would be better I think.

The ones on mine are one way fittings, hose clamps are just for safety's sake. Once they go on they are virtually impossible to get off without destroying the end of the hose.

I haven't had any leaks

I think you find the manufacturers of the push on barbed fittings eg Speedflow STRONGLY recommend against the use of hose clamps "just in case" .... There is absolutely no need for hose clamps, and the use of them actually damages the inside lining of the hose. I challenge anyone to get the correct spec hose off one of these barbed fittings, manually !!!!

The braided lines that come with those ebay kits are hopeless. They are too long and they don't bend well anyway. Plus you cant shorten them unless you take them somewhere to get professionally done.

Barbed pusholock fittings from Speedflo are the way to go. This is what I did. Might give you some ideas? http://www.4gtuner.c...coupe/?p=144406

That's pretty  . To go a little off topic, I'm indecisive about fitting a cooler while I'm there. It's my daily drive. I don't go to the drags or anything because I can't afford to have the car off the road if I break it. I'll give it the berries heading onto the freeway or through some twisties but that's about it. I'm never on it for an extended period. So cooler necessary or not?

Not necessary.
If you could get a forward facing filter housing, you maybe wouldnt need a relocator. But I dont think they are available for 6 bolts.

I was considering this and had a look at where it would sit. Looks like the VR4 cross members would make it as painful as the factory location.

Here's a pick of one with a remote filter set up.

I think I'm going to leave the mount where it is and go with this Aeroflow kit

The VR4's have no choice to relocate, we cant run any other oil filter housing as it will foul on the cross members...

I was actually thinking of a ofh that the filter fitted from the timing belt side (front of engine not front of car). I think mathais has one on his mirage. He has a 7 bolt and I cant recall seeing one for a 6 bolt.
