Anybody got details on the fuel transfer setup to get from the passenger side of the tank to the driver side where the pickup is?

From memory there's a pump in there somewhere that transfers it across the top of the tank to the driver side and I think mine is dying, as I'm getting fuel surge now.

I thought you were running a surge tank :S

I have a tank here, I can remove that side pickup and post pics of what it is, I don't think it's a pump though

I thought it was some sort of siphon get up.

I think it siphons on the return line. The return runs through a venturi and the venturi draws from the far side of the tank.
they have problems with cracked lines at the thing in the tank.

I am running a swirl pot but what I think is happening is when the driver side of the fuel tank is low and it tries to syphon the fuel from the far side of the tank it can't keep up with the demand from the lift pump and the swirl pot is running temporarily empty.

Before I go out for the first session, I drop 20l of fuel in it, then go out and drive laps.  I don't put fuel in it for the second session and it misses and farts almost half way through the session.  I'll come in - drop another 20l of fuel in it and she's fine.

Do you have your return line hooked to the sweet pot?

So then if the return goes into the swirl pot, you have nothing going into the tank return (or sfa) so no transfer of juice over the hump.
maybe try the return back to the tank?

So return to tank and then from the tranfer return going in to the top of cradle to swirl pot and then swirl pot over flow to the top of the cradle...? That made sense to me, not sure about everyone else.

Surge tank is 1litre, one 044 feed pump and return is -6.

I bought a wreck with an interesting setup in the drain bungs. the bungs were replaced with hose barbs...I think custom made. there was hose between the two barbs. Not something I would do for fear of it being ripped off....but this had been a straight line car

you could install a pump on the pax side or a pump on the line that the siphon runs from it wouldn't need to be a big one

you'd want to rig up some sort of empty switch to prevent the pump running dry

This is what I'm considering doing. Might also look at upgrading from -6an to -8an lines and twin 044s for the feed.

Why couldnt you run the return from the engine back to the tank.
think about when the fuel is returning the most, ie off throttle.
Or a t piece on the return to surge tank with a restrictor, and the other unrestricted return to the tank.

Im glad this has come up. I was thinking of a returnless setup, but that would have no siphon on it either, so not much good.
as k said, a little pump would do it, link about a pond size pump.

the return needs to go to the surge and the an over flow from the surge to the tank.

I think with the power you are making your surge is too small and most likely a dicky lift pump.

it will be even worse with 2 x 044.(3 litre minimum I reckon)

go for a high volume low pressure lift pump.

I run 2 x 044 feed with twin -6 feeds and a -8 return but my surge is 7 litres lol

Yeh my surge is also a 7ltre, with 2 x 044 ext pumps. walbro 255 pickup, 6AN from tank to surge, 8AN feed to rail, 6AN return back to surge, then  6AN overflow to tank

Just get a bigger surge tank

Bumping an old thread! Finally undertaking the fuel system upgrade.

Going with a twin in-tank lift pump setup to feed from both sides of the tank into a 5L surge.

Twin 044s through seperate -6an feed lines into each end of the fuel rail and a -8an return line back to the surge. Running a -6an overflow back to the fuel tank.

Decided to use 3/8" rubber lines from the fuel tank to the bulkhead fittings in the floor.
