Balance shafts actually do have a greater role in dampening harmonics in the crank, main bearings and even the clutch.

Did your Wiseco pistons suffer from 'piston slap' at all? What did the bore walls look like when you tore the block down?

What you have done sounds ok. Dont run the gaps tighter than the spec. Im not sure what the spec is, but it sounds like you know.
Im not sure why they are tight, seems strange. I might dig out the bible to reference in the morning.

I know there is only special reasons to run tight gaps, and im pretty sure a turbo isnt one of them. You would need to be pulling engine down every race and inspecting ring ends to see if they too tight and butting. Obviously the gap is much todo with heat in the chamber.

Just to clarify everything, ended up pulling it apart again (well the head off, oil pan, pickup, timing side etc.)
Re-Gapped everything to the min spec. which was .018"
Put it all back together.

Now for the latest story:
I was going to weld up a twin scroll manifold for my Evo. 8 turbo but then i got lazy (that and time) and i thought why can't i just put the compressor and cartridge from the evo 8 turbo i have into the 1G turbo exhaust side.

Pretty much, it fits perfectly no contact and oddly enough the exhaust fins are the exact same design and the locating pin fits in the right place as well.
Only things i had to do was clock the intake/compressor side to the right direction and make a bracket to fit the 1G wastegate actuator.

So i pretty much partially upgraded my turbo

with evo 8 being a reverse spinning turbo, wont that mean your turbine housing will want to spin the turbo the wrong way?

Sorry Bobbitt... that's not going to work unless you turn the turbo around so the intake /compressor is on the opposite end to a regular 1G. The guys above have explained why .....

Would've been nice if i could edit my last post.

I guess its back to welding that manifold and dump pipe up, want to get it done so i can go to Jaf's Last Cruse this year (never been).

Also with the fins facing the wrong way, do you think it would've forced it the right way anyways? even though its technically against the direction of flow its pretty much the only way it can go? XD

There was some talk recently about an EXO X turbo as it is mounted the same way as the earlier cars... not sure if anyone has tried that out yet. Another option is a Forced Performance bolt on turbo (FP Green/red/black) they are having a sale at the moment... about $1000 delivered from the 'states. All depends on what your goals are for your car at the end of the day...

I've been trying to find a cheap evo X turbo for a while now, just haven't found one cheap enough lol.

Looking for fast spool and then slowly increasing power until it felt right.
