Hello there,

This is my first post and sadly it involves my otherwise wonderful 1992 HH Galant VR4 having blown an exhaust valve recently.  It is one of the most beautifully engineered, reliable and FUN to drive cars I've ever owned.  I say reliable  - as I also torture myself by owning a lovely 1972 GTV 105 Alfa Romeo.  Enough said.  Anyway, I'm looking for guidance in finding a mechanic or owner who is familiar with replacing the exhaust valves so that i can get her back on the road.  I've been told that it's a 'relatively' straight forward procedure, but probably beyond my level of experience and mechanical knowledge.

Any assistance / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Richard Andrew

if you have suffered an Alfa...you are going to love your VR4.

there are heaps of guys on here that can guide you through a head rebuild in melbourne if you have some tools and basic mechanical skills

best advice I can give is avoid workshops if you can as unless they are well versed in all things 4G...they will try to make their retirement fund out of you.

Howdy, where abouts in melb are ya?
how mechanically minded are ya? An how far do ya wanna go with the head?

Best thing to do would be to start taking the head off or at least getting it close to being pulled off,

Hi Everyone,

Hey thanks heaps for all the great advice and the warm welcome!  I'm incredibly 'time poor' at the moment as my current job as a project manager is starting to slip into weekends as well as the fact I run a recording studio and play in a few bands....   So I reckon I'll take an hour off tomorrow and follow up a few mechanic leads that were suggested and 'limp' the poor girl over to them.  The way things are, even if I start work to get the head off, I'd still be at it by Christmas next year and I'm really keen to get her back on the road.  I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers all!

You could try Beninca motors in Surrey Hills (being an Alfa guy - you have probably heard of them).  They are not the cheapest guys around but they do excellent, honest work and you get what you pay for and most importantly, I trust them 110% with my car and with what they tell/charge me.  I have never heard a bad word said against them or the work they do (unlike most workshops which always seem to have a horror story or two out there against them!)
