If the ECU is same as VR4, it's pin 12 on the ECU.

No, the timing light is powered by the battery and the pickup is placed over the high tension lead of cylinder 1..
You ground pin 12 to stabilise the base timing for adjustment by rotating the CAS. Stock position is 5deg btdc.
You said you can't find the connector. Pin 12 is the wire that this connector leads to (same thing). The placement of the connector is on the firewall near the washer bottle on VR4's.

Are you able to pin point location from here? Its almost like the plugd fallen off or something because i cant find anything

That's why I gave you the pin location..
I can't see the pic clearly but it's normally right below where those ground cables are terminated near the plate..

Somewhere here usually. Just do it at the ECU if you can't find it.
Before doing so, remove the connector from the ECU and check it isn't already grounded.
