Hi guys I'm on my P's from NSW and I'm buying a GSR in queensland I was wondering if anyone might know if I'm allowed to drive it back because the car isn't banned from 1st of august or would I need a exemption from queensland?

No you dont need an exemption from the QLD motoring authorities unless you have a QLD driver's license.
The rules are a restriction on your license class for your state only.
Otherwise all young NSW turbo car drivers going for a drive to QLD for schoolies week would be screwed lol.

yeah you only have to abide by the restrictions in place on your license and a gsr is on the exempt without reason list in qld anyway. unless you drive like a douche the chance of you getting pulled over in qld are slim
