just a couple of questions:

my cc lancer gsr is completely standard, was looking at boost controllers to get a little more out of it but read that they are illegal, last thing i want is the police picking on me.

i read that high flowing the td04-13g is not worth it, so i was wondering whether upgrading the turbo from td04-13g to td05-14b (if i can find one) otherwise td05-16g is legal?

can i use the stock fuel rail and just upgrade the injectors, or is there a stock looking fuel rail i can use instead of the bright purple ones on ebay?

to up the boost a little can i just change the actuator to a newer model one (do any of them run more boost than stock gsr?)

the point is i want to make my car a little faster without the police having anything to pick on, is this possible?

this is more of a random thought:

I read somewhere that a smaller turbo can use more fuel as it boosts at lower rpms than a larger one that boosts in the higher rpms.

so would the td04 use more fuel than the td05 for standard driving?

thanks

mat

How much faster do you want? If only little just have to turn to boost up by couple psi.
With the actuator it depends on what spring is inside it, some will open at 10 some will open at 14 etc. just get one thats setup to the boost level you wanted.
You can upgrade to td05, stock fuel rail is more than enough you will have to upgrade injectors. (Evo injectors are/look standard anyways)
With the fuel question pretty much boost = more fuel, so i guess if you run a bigger turbo but driving so that you dont hit boost youll save fuel.

A bigger turbo will flow more air at higher rpm therefore will need more fuel

If you're only after a small increase and want to look standard then just get one of these. Small section of the bracket will have to be cut/removed(2min job) so it fits.

Police will not tell if the turbo has been changed, they dont really care

Throw a 16G on and youll be right, just need to mix and match some of the water/oil lines to get it fitting

Improving you GSR but staying incognito...

If you are after just a moderate power increase with some handling improvements in your GSR you can do this without drawing attention to yourself, these are the things you can do;

- fit a bigger rear sway bar - whitleine 20mm is one option, dials out understeer

- fit caster correction bushes to the front, these add more caster for increased dynamic camber

- fit camber adjusting bolts to front wheels for more static camber

- fit a bigger turbo back exhaust, just keep it as quiet as possible!!

- fit a bigger AFM (609 or 055), injectors (eg 510cc)

- fit a bigger turbo (16g as you have mentioned above) and set max boost to 15psi

- fit a front mount intercooler behind the standard bar (remember, incognito!!)

- chip the ecu (eg ecm link) or fit an evo ecu, I can't remember the exact details for this second option but plenty of info in the forums

- fit some green stuff brake pads (or do lots of research to see what else is out there)

- replace all suspension bushes not already touched

- fit a short shifter

All this should take you to around 160kw atw (give or take a little, depends on so many things) with improved handling and stopping and... most importantly... your car still looks completely stock!

This is because you have not;

- put an ebay front bar on

- lowered you car

- made it loud

- stuck a big wing on it

- put lairy wheels on it

- painted it lime green... or purple...

Other things that are good to do (but won't make your car faster) are to update steering wheel and seats, just be careful with the steering wheel as the nice men in blue can be very particular over them, and it is an easy mod to spot. Seats are an interesting one, as EVO1, 2 & 3 seats bolt straight in and are legal but the later seats can draw attention to your car. May not be an issue but just remember, incognito!

I must like that word tonight...

Hope this gives you a few ideas.

thanks dave_gsr1.8, thats a great list

my plan is to stay as incognito as possible

my car does have an evo replica front bar because it has an evo intercooler with the pipe over the top. i have already asked about putting a stock bumper back on but the general consensus seems to be it wont work with the intercooler (all done by previous owner)

it is lowered but i think its at an ok height   (previous owner)

wheels are fairly wide (7.5 wide) but are fairly incognito, no massive lips or wheels hanging out of gaurds (previous owner)

stock exhaust , dont want a loud car so if i upgrade it will be as quiet as physically possible

stock wing staying on

no wild paint jobs

the steering wheel i have been trying to sort out, there doesnt seem to be many around lol mine has the metal centre so making it illegal  :(

trying to source a stock gsr (depending what they look like) or evo steering wheel otherwise i may have to go something like these: http://www.marcony.c...u/steering.html  racepro or match champion

Yeah, if you have intercooler fitted already it gets really tricky, one thing you could do is paint it black to hide it a bit more... I managed to fit an intercooler behind the standard bar but it was smaller than yours (off a Ford XR6 turbo) so you may have to stay with your bar.

Lowering can be OK, its when its looks like the wheels are pushed right up into the guards that it can become an attention grabber. FYI I've attached an old Whitline article, from 1998, on GSR suspension I found on the tech forums, it has some stuff about lowering (I really should find the original poster so I can attribute it properly, I'll have another look).

Re steering wheels, I like SW1041BK, I think I have seen that elsewhere and is one of the wheels I have considered, I have found MOMO, or seen EVO1 wheels but sadly either too much $$ for me, or gone before you can blink!
