Why my 16g wouldn't reach 20psi until 5K

Well I disconnected the actuator and wired the waste gate wide open. The votes are in and (pause for effect) I have a stock waste gate and I'm reaching 20psi due to boost creep. In 3rd I started building boost at about 3500 and had 20psi at 5000. Time to order a manual boost controller.


ECM Link, 399 MAF, 560cc injectors, 270 cams, TD05-20G @22psi, 3" dump, full 3" mandrel exhaust, intercooler, Fidanza alloy flywheel, 4 bolt LSD, EVO IV brakes, Strut braces, coil overs and sway bars.

How much boost do you want?
4g93t jumbuck conversion. PRANGED 18/3/12, CHECK MY MEMBER RIDES Page 11. no serious human injuries.

Seeing as the meek prom I have is supposed to be for 20psi and it doesn't knock I figure I'll stick with 20psi. It's not like I have much choice. Now a new question. Can I just use a MBC or should I get an actuator with a higher initial pressure as well, say 15psi?

 

In the long run I'll have my ported housing with 34mm gate and use dsmlink to do 3 port electronic control, but for now MBC.

Just remember that whatever actuator pressure you get will be the lowest boost you can run.
If you want to run 20psi get one as close to that as possible so it makes your MBC / bleed valves life a bit easier.

Afaik the lite version of ecmlink doesnt have boost control. That may be ok as I dont think you can buy the lite version now anyway. (Except for evo 1-3)

I've sold a few of the cheaper boost controllers on eBay. They work fine.

My actuator was bent, I uncrimped it and fixed it and recrimped it no worries. So you could just get a spring and do the same. Bit time consuming, but effective.

Im gettin one of those actuators this week. 1.2 bar which will no doubt creep to 1.3 or 1.4. Ive got a 20g with 34mm wastegate and still get creep from 6.5k
