Just a quick look what I've done post. I have an evo 2 turbo and thought I'd upgrade the turbine housing to evo 3 spec. I spent several hours in the garage today with it and a die grinder. It came ported as cast from Kinugawa so I just had to remove a some meat above the waste gate area that was a weird little lump, and generally smooth things out. Then spend a little time with polishing bits.

Very nice! Well done. I'm a big fan of porting, in fact I did exactly the same thing for White Knight today, although his still had the fire ring on it so it needed a fair bit of love. I also had a ported manifold I had done before hand and we put

that on too. It changed the exhaust note, gave it a bit more of a burble.

Porting is relatively cheap and the sense of satisfaction is so worth it, you'll pick up a few ponies here and there doing it.

What are you going to port next?

Next will be the JPWarehouse evo 3 manifold that is next on my parts list once I get my belts and cams sorted. Then I'll get them ceramic coated along with the punishment racing 3" dump that's winging it's way to me as we speak. Can't wait.

Nice job, I bloody hate porting. Especially iron with carbide bits.

One small job and you'll be getting steel splinters for the rest of your life. Lol

What abrasives did you use to smooth it out and how long did it take you roughly?

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. You sit for ages with tweezers getting them all out of your finger tips. I had some left over in my gloves too so when I put them on I got a surprise.

I did the little bit of reshaping I had to do with a standard grey semi pointed stone and also used this to take off the top layer of the casting and produce a relatively smooth surface. I then polished with 120 and then 400 grit flapper wheels. With a little experimentation I discovered that doing it in a "wax on, wax off" motion produced the best finish. The whole thing took about 3 - 3.5 hours.

And the metallic taste. Yummy.
Needs a stiff rum to get rid of the taste.

At least if it was ali grindings it would keep me calm and placid.

Shit Mo, fuel would be sticking to that like shit on a blanket. Need to do that on exhaust, and leave the intakes with some roughage. (IMO)

Ahahahahaha! Crackup George I did the same thing to the cylinder head ports so you've got a point but yeah I didn't know about that or even consider it back then.

All I thought of was it would be good to make them smooth to prevent carbon build up sticking to it. The car ran well but idk how much of that I could attribute to the porting.

I saw your pictures and it took me back to my escort days when there were gangs of webers hanging off the ends of intake runners like that. Then I thought about injectors!!?? My how times have changed.
