so my vr4 in WA has a new paper come with the rego saying , condition 301 import exempt from australian design rules and compliance.

From what i can find it so far means i dont need to wear a import compliance plate , my question is if its exempt from ADRs does that mean the police can sticker me for my engine mods not being permitted ?

I recieved a lovely yellow for my pod but the cop had no idea that my battery wasnt in the engine bay and that i was running a atmo catch can all he could fixate on was my pod filter....

This is becoming a hot topic among some WA import owners just wondering on what you guys think or know about this ?

item 301= JACKPOT.

had an RX7 with 301  and got away with all sorts of shit.  BUT....you have to have a safe vehicle and that is what they will look for at the pits.  Having pollution issues with atmo fume release is an ADR...noise....and suspension and all to good things we like are all ADRs so technically your car is exempt from these. HOWEVER...are the modifications you make SAFE.

could those fumes ignite...perhaps you might hit a pig and it smashes you headlight and causes sparks from a wiring short in the engine bay. No you dont get roast pork....and the motor bike is fucking hard to hide.....any way you get the point. they will find ways of making your car seem unsafe.....such and a loose pod filter that could fall off and be launched from under the car and decapitate Collin barnett as he follows in the car behind. No one would care about colin but its hard to get blood out of the filter...so make it safe.

G'day.

Find someone who rallies a VR4/EVO import and ask which engineer they had sign off on their mods. Get info from the engineer!

Forumistas are a notorious source of mis-information. Talk to the butcher, not the block!!!

Cheers

Save yourself the pain mate. Take a tub of vas.

Why Northam cops? I'm not sure VSB's make it out there. I agree that the 301 is your ticket out of the pod issue, I'm just not sure you will have any luck trying to convince the Northam traffic Sargent. Best ring a licensing centre and talk to someone that could actually be able to do something about it. $0.02

It was the northam coppers that got me george , was on the way to racewars. One officer was a wanker and the other was shaking his head at him while he slapped the canary on it.

Only reason he did it i reckon is my car comes up as suspended driver as im on resriction , i had my mate drive the car up i nicely explained i was trying to do the right thing and his reply was pop the bonnet

took one look at pod and his mind was made up , none of my mods are dodgly done or cheap shit either. He even tried to tell me its not a factory turbo car !!!

I managed to explain to him it was , he didnt even pick up on the fact there was not bat in engine bay... Needless to say he was a clueless cuntstable and just wanted to book me for anything in my opinion.

After much research and phone calls today all i can make from the 301 is that the vehicle is exempt from adrs in its factory form, so basiclyy they cant pic on me hyaving no repeaters in the fenders or my awesome little green vr4 jspec fender lights !!!

This is not stopping me from lodging a complaint about the issuing officer though , im with in my right to and i will , 2 can play the game of being a wanker i reckon and im married so i thi k ill win the wanking game hahahaha

Yeah they are exempt from ADR compliance provided the car is left stock. Its usually the case with yellow plate imports - they don't get Aussie compliance plates put on them. My old EVO III was the same.

But if you have something blatantly unroadworthy then you still get into shit for it.

Get rid of the pod. Put your filter in the fender and duct cold air into it.
Underbonnet pods are pos. And the filter oil wrecks out maf sensors. Bad bad

In the nissan world oiled filters are notrious for ruiniung MAFs. The only reason I havent removed the pod from our evo is because I dont have anything to replace it with, except for another possible 8 pods.

Sorry to bring back an older thread.

But if you buy an early EVO from WA with condition 301 import exempt from australian design rules and compliance printed on the rego papers does this mean it can be Rego'd in other states without a yellow plate ??
