Hmmm, interesting read, sounds very similar to a 2 stoke exhaust design but 3 ft long. If we were in the states we could chrome it and stand it up like a stack! :P

We don't need to be in the states, we have Browns Plains for that :P
Yeah it's sort of like an expansion chamber, but not the same as 2 strokes. I think they're designed differently, to enhance scavenging whilst also providing a precisely timed backpressure on the port.

Well I'm out then.

suggest practice on a fucked one first ......if after it it is finished you mates that dont know you did it say it looks like a muppet did it. Dont do the real one .get another and practice...practice makes perfect

OK so all I need is a sacraficial turbine housing, seeing as the last thing I ported were the heads on my 351 about 12 years ago.

Shaping the path into the side of the housing is easy as there is so much "meat" in the housing. there needs to be a pretty sharp bottom section in the waste gate where it sits in the forcing cone. after that sharp edge and on the outward side there should be a small depression that causes shear in the flow of gas rather than swirl in that area. That isnt there on a stock housing waste gate exit after the creation of the shear point....make it smoother.

Having trouble getting my minds eye to see this. Do you mean that looking down the housings cone into the turbine area that the 'top' side of the hole leading to the wastegate needs a sharp corner, and at bottom further in it should be nice and rounded? What we are going for is max velocity / smoothest air hitting the turbine. Yes?

Now I'm just spamming my own thread. The pic below. Good or bad as far as waste gate porting goes?

Stole it from DSM tuners

Great porting job in those pics, but there can't be much meat left in some spots. You would think in an 'unsupported' application, cracking would be a really concern.

Exhaust housings crack easily enough on their own, I wouldn't make any part of it thinner. Just smooth the cast. If you need better WG control, go external.

The step is there for a fire ring. This protects the gasket from blowing/burning out

I don't think the Kinugawa housings have one Jack.

I'm regularly blowing out my mani turbo gasket. It destroyed my shine new manifold blanket :(
Too much back pressure I guess.

Turbine housing is here and as far as I'm concerned all I have to do is polish it, no actual porting required. While I was there I grabbed a new drain tube too. :D
