It's a E39A

I'm assuming it's a single synchro, the guy said that it needs a new 2nd hub assemble, synchro, bearings and seals. He said that he called around and couldn't find any second hand hubs and that I should try and find another gearbox. I'll send tmz an email an see what he says.

Anyone else in the market for some rebuild parts?

I want to refresh an A-Spec W5M33 box sometime in the near future and am thinking bearings, 2nd and 3rd gear syncros.

Yea I need to get some. But I need to inspect the box first. Its out, and the cover is off.
Whats your timeframe? Are you going tmz or jacks or what?

I need some stuff from TMZ. 

I need to get a rebuild kit (just bearings and seals) so I can assemble my dogbox (and maybe a twin plate to suit E4-9 input shaft if I have the cash).

I might also get a full synchro rebuild kit with DSM 1st gear and double synchro 2nd as well depending on price..

Also need to get the gear for a 4 pinion centre diff.

I still haven't picked the gearbox up yet. I'm doing a KM225 2.848 to W5M33 3.545 conversion on my GSR with a Libero GT rear diff.

 

 

I am pretty keen on all the bits needed for a "Stage 1 Rebuild"  but with the strongest shift forks I can get- as i'm pretty ruthless when it comes to shifting fast.

You will be close to the $1k limit for those parts. So I wouldnt be getting any bits for anyone else, or you will be paying gst on the lot.

Really? The whole "Stage 1" rebuild service in the States is just over $1k?

 

Has anyone considered ordering parts directly from Japan?

 

We need a gearbox guru here in Oz to start refreshing gearboxes for us all. What about Rob? I just realised I have an EVO 1 gearbox in one of my cars but i'm not sure if it's just the casing or not until I pull it out. :w00t:

I'm hoping that Tim will teach me his witchery before he delves off into the darkside with his auto and forgets everything W5M33 related :lol:

You might squeeze a couple of extra bearings and seals under $1k.
There is a lot of stuff you might not need, like 5th synchro, etc.
You really need to tear the box down and inspect it before buying bits you dont need.

Sorry I missed that part! Seems ultra cheap for labour over there. Goes to show how expensive this country is. I would expect it to cost 3 times as much!!

Anyway- I picked up my W5M33 NQZK A-spec gearbox yesterday. Done 190k kms. Has anyone sourced a complete bearing set locally? I was trolling the Amayama page and they have all gearbox parts available... including entire brand new gearboxes for $4100. Not bad really. More than what I paid for my car though haha.

 

It would be good if someone compiled a complete list of part numbers needed for a basic rebuild, so we could quote the cost of parts direct from Japan ;)

lol Dre. GSR, EVO and RVR gearboxes are no problem for me, but I've taken a long break due to health reasons and have 2 gearboxes here to yet rebuild for my brother and I. I tried to teach Mikey what to do but he has a short attention span and was too preoccupied with Facebook on his mobile lol. Also have a bunch of spares I need to find time to rebuild some gearboxes and either keep as spares or sell off. All in due time (whenever that will be).

 

VR4 gearboxes are still a bitch to know what you have unless you open it up. Ive been clued up a little more in the meantime about the differences, but its still safer to open, identify and measure the synchro rings before making an order. They came with 3 different synchro versions and even Tim at TMZ reckons its best to check with the Galant GVR4.

 

I will also need to buy more parts from TMZ when our 4-spider centres come from Shayne :) . But as stated, once you go over $1000AU including shipping you get stung with GST, Tariffs etc.

Delivery of parts from the US from TMZ is usually around $60 via USPS anyway. If some of you group buy you're then left with the problem of mailing the parts to eachother via AUSTPOST ripoff rates ($40+) when they arrive.  

So overall, you guys wont be saving maybe $20 tops each by buying as a group, rather than buying individually from TMZ. I think its best to buy individually as he can dispatch some orders quicker than others instead of waiting around for other parts to come in. Unless of course you're within close driving distance to someone entering a group buy with you.
