You need to drop the tank to do it the right way.

Yes, its drop the tank out time. After that engineering gem, the Japanese work experience engineer responsible for this silliness was given a large cold soldering iron. He was then instructed to lube it well, shove it up his cakehole and then personally switch the power lead on. He could then feel the pain every Evo 4-6 owner feels when a fuel pump swap is required !! Luckily , the junior engineer had a vision and then made subsequent Evos with easily accessible pumps thru the floorpan....

So some are from the back seat and some require the tank out ?

Evo 1, 2 &3 you could remove pump without dropping tank....4, 5 &6 its a tank out job. In the Evo 7, 8, 9 they went back to being able to remove without removing tank.

Like we have already posted, to do it properly, you need to drop the tank.

Done this 3 times in my cars and still can't believe Mistu did this for the CE body shape.

Put an E8 pump in the GSR only to end up replacing it with a Walbo.

Should have done that the first time.
