Hi all

Over the past week the HSG has developed a steering shudder at about 120km/h.
As of last night, the shudder is from about 80mk/h so it’s getting worse

There’s no clicking or clunking from the joint itself so hopefully I just need a new boot and it all to be regreased and sealed up.

I’m having a supplier I use for work to do the job and would rather decrease the amount of time I’m without the car by supplying him with part numbers.


Chasing the parts I need, I found this part number on Complete RVR:

Boot Kit FR Axle Shaft MR222635

Would this be the whole kit – new boot, seals, etc?

Are u sure u havent got a wheel our of balance, wheel weights dislodged, a tyre out of round, or wheel nuts about to go on a holiday?? just a thought

outer control in myaree did mine, i pulled shaft and dropped it off for him and he rebooted one side and regreased both joints. i think i picked it up 1hr later. was pretty cheap too. they have mobile service too. they good guys

your issue doesnt sound like a cv shaft though, i reckon warbo is on the money, esp the wheel nuts bit. jack each wheel up and look for wobbles after you check wheel nuts

OH hey I was so intent on thinking it was a joint that I kinda, totally, completely never checked my tyres. Driving on an inch or two of belt isn't such a hot idea.

RVR has new shoes now but I can still hear a low whistling/hum when I turn left at speed - might still be a small split howling? Not sure...

I'm had similar issues with my RVR for years now and it's really starting to pi$$ me off.

It's nothing to do with wheel balance. It can happen straight after having a balance and allignment done.

From 100km+ it have shuddering coming through the steering wheel. I also have a vibration coming through the car at the same speed. One of the rear arm rests for the back seat will hum and vibrate away at this speed.

Where is a GOOD suspension person/place in the Brisbane area I can take my car to to have the problems diagnosed and repaired correctly?

I know Lauren didn't end up needing to replace her inner CV boots, but I have to now. After a bit of stuffing around emailing a few places and what not, I ended up just measuring the axle and pieces, and from what i found, the axle was 26mm and the outer bit was 88mm, with an overall length of about 100mm. Scanned through the Kelpro catalogue and found COB-045 from a 90-92 Telstar Turbo is basically spot on for measurement sizes.

Over the next few weekends i'll pull an axle out and get the fitted, I'm hoping this is what they definitely are, according to my Verneers it's correct.

On my UF Nimbus I had similar issues with shuddering and vibration through the steering wheel. It was most evident at speed going over bumps.
I replaced the sway bar links and even checked the brake calipers as it seemed like a rattle somewhere that I couldnt pin point. I was just about to accuse the front struts when during rego inspection the whole front end was lifted and the mechanic and I went over the bitch and found it.
It turned out to be the front lower control arm bush that goes on the rear pin of the control arm. See pic.
Could be worth checking out as at speed the worn bush can cause the front wheel alignment to go out of whack and start shuddering your steering wheel.
A brand new pair of Nolathane 45454 bushes sorted it out and instantly the shuddering was gone. The same bushes are also listed for Hyundai Lantra 92-96.
For the UF Nimbus and RVR, those sway bar links and bushes are a real pain. These problems would be much more emphasised in the AWD of the RVR.
